Top Five Boating Locations for Fall

Canada is renowned for it’s stunning Fall foliage, and being out on the water provides the perfect vantage point to view the spectacular colours nationwide! We’ve put together some of our favourite spots to grab unbeatable views this season…

ONTARIO

Algonquin Park is the ultimate fall foliage hotspot and visitors come in their droves to get the perfect shot of the panoramic views. And while motorized boats are not permitted on most of the waterways, there are some exceptions; most notably Lake Opeongo and Galeairy Lake. You can see the other locations where boating is permitted here.

QUEBEC

Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec truly is a boater’s paradise, with 15km of shoreline to explore – all while admiring the rich autumnal tapestry surrounding you. Full of colour and character, this area is the perfect niche for navigators. Discover how to chart your course here.

BRITISH COLUMBIA

Atlin Lake may be most beautiful place on earth, and no more so than in Fall. Tucked away in Northwestern BC, this is the largest natural lake in BC known across Canada for its trophy trout fishing. You’ll need to apply for a permit before casting your lines here, but it’s worth it getting out on the water for these views alone!

SASKATCHEWAN

Boating down the majestic North Saskatchewan River is a must for any nature or history buff. Spot a wide diversity of wildlife such as kingfishers, beavers and bald eagles as you sail past the historic Fort Saskatchewan, enveloped by a myriad of autumnal oranges, reds and yellows.

NOVA SCOTIA

The St Anns River along the Cabot Trail offers spectacular views, however anywhere in the area is sure to satisfy. Whatever route you take, this boating adventure is definitely worth the trip. Learn where to launch here.

The best times to view the Fall foliage vary per province; but be sure to check your local area for details and more information. A rough guideline for when to set sail for optimal colour coverage is below…

BC – October and November

AB – Late September to the end of October

SK – October

MB – October

ON – End of September to the end of October

QC – End of September to mid-to-late October

NB – Early October

NS – Late September through early October

PE – Mid-September to the end of October

NL – Late September to early October

We hope this gets you excited for the season ahead but make sure you remember to stay safe!  The beautiful fall colours and fresh crisp air can distract from the dangers of cold water immersion, so always wear your lifejacket and refresh your knowledge before you set out!

Happy Fall Boating!
