{"id":735,"date":"2015-04-24T11:03:28","date_gmt":"2015-04-24T15:03:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boatsmartexam.com\/?post_type=article&#038;p=735"},"modified":"2020-03-27T15:45:04","modified_gmt":"2020-03-27T15:45:04","slug":"boat-accident-reporting-in-hawaii","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.boatsmartexam.com\/knowledge-base\/article\/boat-accident-reporting-in-hawaii\/","title":{"rendered":"Hawaii&#8217;s Boat Accident Reporting Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Hawaii&#8217;s Boat Accident Reporting Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>According to Hawaii&#8217;s boat accident reporting requirements, an operator involved in a boating accident is required to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stop their boat at the scene of the accident.<\/li>\n<li>Assist any person in distress, or who has been injured, so long as they are able to do so without risking the safety of their passengers or of themselves.<\/li>\n<li>Provide their name, address and boat information in writing, to any person who was injured and to the owner of any property that was damaged as a result of the accident.<\/li>\n<li>If the operator has collided with or damaged an unattended boat, they must securely attach a written notice in a visible place to the other boat. This written notice must provide:\n<ul>\n<li>The boat operator\u2019s name.<\/li>\n<li>The boat operator\u2019s address.<\/li>\n<li>Boat identification information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Reporting Boat Accidents<\/h2>\n<p>Boat operators who are involved in a boating accident, or the owner of a boat involved in an accident, are required to notify a police office, a harbor official or the nearest police station and provide the following information if a person dies, or if there are injuries that require treatment beyond first aid:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The date, time and location of the accident.<\/li>\n<li>The name of each person who was killed.<\/li>\n<li>The number and name of the boat.<\/li>\n<li>The names and addresses of the owner(s) and operator(s).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Submitting Boat Accident Report Forms<\/h2>\n<p>Boat operators are required to submit a written accident report to the HDLNR within 48 hours, if any of the following occur:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A person is killed or disappears from the boat.<\/li>\n<li>A person is injured and requires medical treatment beyond first aid.<\/li>\n<li>Property damage has occurred totaling more than $200.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All other boating accidents must be reported within 7 days of the occurrence.<\/p>\n<h2>Hawaii\u2019s Boat Accident Report Form:<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/files.hawaii.gov\/dlnr\/dobor\/forms\/CG-3865.pdf\">http:\/\/files.hawaii.gov\/dlnr\/dobor\/forms\/CG-3865.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","format":"standard","article-category":[13],"article-tag":[23,24,247,274],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v14.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Hawaii&#039;s Boat Accident Reporting Laws and Requirements<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Hawaii&#039;s boat accident reporting.
