Loading your boat improperly, either by overloading it or by uneven weight distribution, can result in unpredictable boat handling. Here are our tips to help you load your boat accurately.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Consult your pleasure craft\u2019s compliance notice&nbsp;on your boats hull and ensure that:\n<ul>\n<li>Equipment and people do not exceed the \u2018recommended gross load capacity\u2019 of the craft<\/li>\n<li>The number of people onboard does not exceed \u2018the equivalent number of adult persons\u2019 the craft is capable of safely carrying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Ensure each passenger is wearing a properly fitted and approved <a title=\"Lifejackets &amp; PFDs\" href=\"\/article\/lifejackets-pfds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PFD or life jacket<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Be sure that the boat operator boards first and then assists each passenger aboard.<\/li>\n<li>Position equipment and people on the boat so that weight is equally distributed&nbsp;and as low as possible throughout the watercraft.<\/li>\n<li>Each person should be properly seated and positioned before the next person comes aboard.<\/li>\n<li>Check that all equipment is securely fastened and stored properly to prevent uncontrolled shifting once the craft is underway\u2013you should stow gear in lockers that are easily accessible in case of emergency and as low as possible to help stabilize the watercraft.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/02\/loading-people-equipment-pg100.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-163 size-large\" data-original=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/02\/loading-people-equipment-pg100-1024x441.jpg\" alt=\"Equipment being loaded onto a boat\" width=\"1024\" height=\"441\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Instructions for Personal Watercraft&nbsp;Passengers<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re a passenger in a boat, there are a few things you should know to be sure you have a safe enjoyable time out on the boat.
