{"id":796,"date":"2015-04-30T12:10:14","date_gmt":"2015-04-30T16:10:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boatsmartexam.com\/?post_type=article&#038;p=796"},"modified":"2020-03-26T17:19:32","modified_gmt":"2020-03-26T17:19:32","slug":"boat-license-requirements-in-missouri","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.boatsmartexam.com\/knowledge-base\/article\/boat-license-requirements-in-missouri\/","title":{"rendered":"Missouri Boat License Regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Who needs a Missouri Boat License?<\/h2>\n<p>All persons born after January 1, 1984, who wish to operate a boat on Missouri waters are required to carry one of the following on board the boat:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Boating Safety Identification Card, commonly called a <a href=\"https:\/\/boatsmartexam.com\/us\/\">boat license<\/a> (from a NASBLA-approved course) issued by the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).<\/li>\n<li>A valid master&#8217;s, mate&#8217;s, or operator&#8217;s license issued by the U.S. Coast Guard.<\/li>\n<li>A Missouri driver\u2019s license, or a non-driver\u2019s license, with a boating safety endorsement \u00a0issued by the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Boat License Exemptions:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Those licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard to serve as master of a vessel.<\/li>\n<li>Those who operate a boat only on a private lake or pond that is not classified as waters of the state.<\/li>\n<li>Operators participating in an event or regatta approved by the water patrol.<\/li>\n<li>Non-residents who have proof of a valid Boating Certificate or license issued by another state (as long as the Boating Course is NASBLA-approved).<\/li>\n<li>Those exempted by rule of the water patrol.<\/li>\n<li>Those currently serving in any branch of the United States Armed Forces, reserves, or Missouri National Guard, or any spouse of a person currently in such service.<\/li>\n<li>Any operator who has previously successfully completed a NASBLA-approved Boating Safety Education Course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Missouri&#8217;s Age and Horsepower Restrictions<\/h2>\n<p>It is illegal for any person under 14 years of age to operate any motorized boat or vessel upon the Missouri waters unless they are under the direct, on board supervision of a parent, guardian or other person, who is 16 years of age or older, or unless the motorized boat is moored.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additionally, it is illegal to allow a person who is under the minimum age to operate a motorized boat while unattended.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For more information boating education and license requirements in the state of Missouri visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov\/MSHPWeb\/WaterPatrol\/moBoatingLawsResponsibilities.html\">Missouri State Highway Patrol, Water Patrol Division<\/a> website.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","format":"standard","article-category":[7],"article-tag":[289,15,29,37,247],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v14.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Missouri Boat License Regulations &amp; Education Requirements<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Missouri boat license and boater education requirements.
