{"id":802,"date":"2015-04-30T14:05:43","date_gmt":"2015-04-30T18:05:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.boatsmartexam.com\/?post_type=article&#038;p=802"},"modified":"2020-03-26T15:06:27","modified_gmt":"2020-03-26T15:06:27","slug":"boat-accident-reporting-in-maryland","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.boatsmartexam.com\/knowledge-base\/article\/boat-accident-reporting-in-maryland\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland&#8217;s Boat Accident Reporting Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What to do if you&#8217;re Involved in a Boat Accident<\/h2>\n<p>Maryland&#8217;s boat accident reporting regulations require boat opertors to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stop their boat at the scene.<\/li>\n<li>Render assistance to any person who has been injured or who is in danger so long as they can do so without risking their safety or their passenger&#8217;s safety.<\/li>\n<li>Provide their name, address and boat information in writing, to any person who was injured, and to the owner of any property that was damaged as a result of the accident.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/04\/ReportingBoatAccidentsStaticFix-01.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-726\" data-original=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/04\/ReportingBoatAccidentsStaticFix-01-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Boat Accident Reporting\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Reporting Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>A report must be filed with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A person is killed or disappears from the boat (must be reported within 48 hours).<\/li>\n<li>A person requires medical treatment beyond first aid, loses consciousness or is disabled more than 24 hours (must be reported within 48 hours).<\/li>\n<li>There is property damage in excess of $2,000 (must be reported within 10 days).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, if a boat with Maryland registration is involved in an accident which results in the death, disappearance or injury of a person, or in property damage exceeding $2,000, the accident must be reported to the MDNR within 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>Boating Accident Report Forms are obtainable from the MDNR Police. The operator of the boat or boats involved in the accident must submit the report to the MDNR Police.
