The Certificate of Number must be carried on board and be available for inspection by an enforcement officer during boat operation.<\/p>\n<p>Registration application forms are available at the <a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.wi.gov\/\">Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources<\/a> (WI DNR) field offices, marinas, and at county clerk offices. You can renew your registration online at http:\/\/dnr.wi.gov\/Permits\/wivrs.html.<\/p>\n<p>Boat registrations are valid for 3 years and expire March 31st of the third year.<\/p>\n<p><b>Boat Registration Exemptions: <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/safety-in-small-boats\" data-wplink-url-error=\"true\">Human-powered craft<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Sailboards and sailboats under 12 feet in length (without a motor).<\/li>\n<li>Boats registered in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boatsmartexam.com\/knowledge-base\/region\/us\/\">another state<\/a> using Wisconsin waters for less than 60 consecutive days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Other Registration Info<\/h2>\n<p>According to Wisconsin&#8217;s boat registration requirements, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WI DNR) must be notified within 15 days when:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A boat is lost, destroyed or abandoned.<\/li>\n<li>The boat owner&#8217;s address changes.<\/li>\n<li>The boat ownership is transferred.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: If registration documents or decals are destroyed or lost, you must apply to the WI DNR for a replacement and pay a fee.<\/p>\n<h2>Boat Registration Numbers and Decal Placement:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The numbers must be applied as a decal, painted or permanently affixed to each side of the boat\u2019s bow (boat owners are not permitted to display any other numbers in this area).<\/li>\n<li>The numbers must be in bold block letters that are at least 3 inches high and in a color that contrasts with the color of the boat.<\/li>\n<li>The numbers must be separated from the letters by a space at least 2 inches wide.<\/li>\n<li>The numbers must be read from left to right.<\/li>\n<li>Validation Decals must be placed in line with the registration number and placed 3 inches toward the stern.<\/li>\n<li>These placement requirements also apply to personal watercraft (PWCs).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","format":"standard","article-category":[7],"article-tag":[247,263,32],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v14.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Wisconsin&#039;s Boat Registration and Numbering Requirements<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Wisconsin&#039;s boat registration requirements.
