Their purpose is to attract the attention of other boaters and to aid with navigation on the water.<\/p>\n<h2>Sound-Signalling Devices and Appliances<\/h2>\n<p>The <em>Small Vessel Regulations<\/em> require that&nbsp;all boats carry some form of sound-signalling device, such as a <a title=\"BOATsmart! Marine Blast Whistle\" href=\"http:\/\/www.boatsmartmarine.com\/collections\/retail\/products\/marine-blast\">whistle<\/a> or horn. The requirement depends on your type and size of boat. Marine Blast Whistle\" href=\"http:\/\/www.boatsmartmarine.com\/collections\/retail\/products\/marine-blast\">Marine Blast Whistle<\/a> to your life jacket or PFD so that you\u2019ll be able to signal for help if you become stranded in the water.<\/p>\n<h2>Navigation Lights<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/03\/NavigationLights-01-copy.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-227\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/03\/NavigationLights-01-copy-1024x692.jpg\" alt=\"Boat with Navigation Lights\" width=\"600\" height=\"406\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You are required to display your navigation lights between sunset and sunrise.&nbsp;Navigation lights must also be exhibited&nbsp;<a title=\"Boating in Restricted visibility\" href=\"\/article\/boating-in-restricted-visibility\/\">during periods of reduced visibility<\/a> such as fog or heavy rain conditions.<\/p>\n<p>If operating a non-powered craft that does not have fixed navigation lights, then you must have a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boatsmartmarine.com\/collections\/retail\/products\/led-marine-flashlight\">watertight flashlight<\/a> or lantern that can emit a white light.<\/p>\n<h2>Radar Reflector<\/h2>\n<p>A radar reflector is a metallic device that is used to identify the position of your boat to other vessels equipped with radar. Radar reflectors are required for boats under 20 m and boats that are built of mostly non-metallic materials.
