Noise Level and Muffler Requirements in Nevada<\/h2>\n

The exhaust of every internal combustion engine used on a motorized boat must be effectively muffled by equipment designed to muffle or suppress the noise of the exhaust in a reasonable manner. In Nevada, the use of cutouts or open exhaust stacks is prohibited. Boats participating in permitted regattas, boat races, or speed trials are exempt from this requirement.<\/p>\n

Muffling Devices<\/h2>\n

It is illegal to exceed a noise level of:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • 86dbA measured at a distance of 50 feet or more from the boat.<\/li>\n
  • 90dbA measured using a stationary sound level test, if the engine was manufactured before January 1, 1993, or 88 dbA if the engine was manufactured on or after January 1, 1993.<\/li>\n
  • 75dbA measured from the shoreline using a stationary sound level test.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Boat operators can be requested by law enforcement to submit to a noise level test. \u00a0If the boat is found to exceed maximum noise levels, the enforcement officer can require the operator to correct the issue immediately, and may require the operator to terminate operation until they are in compliance with noise laws.<\/p>\n

    Nevada\u2019s Waste Disposal and Litter Laws<\/h2>\n

    It is illegal to discharge any sewage (treated or untreated) into the waters of this state.<\/p>\n

    This includes:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • The contents of a holding tank or portable device.<\/li>\n
