The exhaust of every internal combustion engine on any motorized boat shall be effectively muffled by a muffler or underwater exhaust. The use of cutouts is prohibited, except for motorized boats competing in an approved race or trial run.<\/p>\n

Discharge of sewage<\/b><\/p>\n

It is illegal to discharge any sewage from a boat into the waters of the state unless discharged via a marine toilet which is either a Marine Sanitation Device (MSD)-Type I, or a MSD-Type II, and it must be in proper working condition.<\/p>\n

No Discharge Zones<\/b><\/p>\n

It is illegal to discharge any sewage from a boat into Rhode Island\u2019s waterways. Boaters must understand that EVERY waterway in the state of Rhode Island is considered to be a \u201cNo Discharge Zone\u201d. Additionally, it is illegal to moor a boat on Rhode Island waterways if it is equipped with a marine toilet which is not properly sealed to prevent the discharge of sewage into the water.<\/p>\n

Marine Sanitation Devices<\/b><\/p>\n
