A thief, however, values your boat\u2019s dollar value. You can prevent boat theft\u00a0by doing the following:<\/p>\n<h2>Trademark It:<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/04\/trade-mark0643Crop1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-382\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/04\/trade-mark0643Crop1.jpg\" alt=\"Trademarking your boat to prevent theft\" width=\"501\" height=\"437\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Put plenty of marks on your boat to personalize it. You could use an engraving device to carefully etch your name into fiberglass or metal areas (but make sure these areas are above the water line!). It&#8217;s also a good idea to mark parts that could be removed and resold, such as props, wakeboard towers or engines. Make sure you don\u2019t mark an area that can\u2019t be touched, like the <a href=\"\/article\/usa-boat-registration\/\">HIN<\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0Lock It Up:<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/04\/lock-it-upCrop1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-383\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/04\/lock-it-upCrop1.jpg\" alt=\"Locking up your boat to prevent theft\" width=\"500\" height=\"434\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An unlocked boat is as easy to steal from as an unlocked car. A good lock will deter thieves who don&#8217;t want to linger around the boat and raise suspicion, especially if the boat is <a href=\"http:\/\/mooring-anchoring-boat-docking-procedures\" data-wplink-url-error=\"true\">moored<\/a> in a crowded dock area. Any lock is better than no lock at all\u2014so lock it up. Especially if you keep valuables in the cabin!<\/p>\n<h2>Preventing Boat Theft: Be Trailer Safe:<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/04\/be-trailer-safeCrop1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-384\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2015\/04\/be-trailer-safeCrop1.jpg\" alt=\"Boat trailer safety\" width=\"501\" height=\"434\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If your boat is sitting on a trailer, it will be particularly exposed to theft. Think about it\u2014a thief could simply back up to the hitch, hook up and drive off with your boat. To prevent this, you can place a hitch lock on the ball of the trailer, or you can jack the trailer up on blocks and remove the tires.
