Do I need a Boaters Education Card?
Alaska does not require boating education. You can take this course to save on insurance or to boat in states that require a card.
Will My Alaska Boating License Be Valid In Other States?
Yes! The BOATsmart! Card is accepted in 40 states, which extend reciprocity. This means the BOATsmart! Course meets the National Standards established by NASBLA. This reciprocity applies to operators of motorized boats, but not in all states to operators of personal watercraft (PWC). Check the boating laws in the state you plan to visit prior to operating a boat or PWC there.
Do I Need To Complete The 3-Hour Online Alaska BOATsmart! Course Before I Can Access The Final Test?
Yes. The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) requires boaters to complete the full 3-hour online study guide in order to access the online version of the Boater Education Test. However, you don’t have to complete the entire Study Guide in one sitting. BOATsmart! will automatically track and save your progress. Once you’ve completed all modules and quizzes you’ll gain access to Alaska’s Official Boater Education Card test

What If I Fail And Need To Retry The Boating Safety Test?
Is It True That My Driver’s License Will Be Suspended If I’m Convicted Of Operating My Boat While Under The Influence In Alaska?
Yes. In Alaska, if you are convicted of operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will lose your driver’s license for a minimum of 30 days and your boat will be forfeited. That’s your DRIVER’S LICENSE you’ll lose; not your Boater Education Card. Never drink and drive any type of vehicle.
