Litter Laws in Kentucky

Accoring to Kentucky state litter laws, it is illegal to discharge raw sewage into any public waters.

All boats that are equipped with a marine toilet must also be equipped with a Type I, II or III Marine Sanitation Device (MSD) when they are operating on public waters.

Treated sewage may be discharged into designated legal ‘Discharge Zone’ waters, which are Barkley and Kentucky lakes, Lake Cumberland, Dale Hollow or any of the major river systems. When a boat is operating on ‘No Discharge Zone’ waters, their Type I or II MSDs must be sealed or locked.

For more information on boating regulations that apply on Kentucky state waterways, visit the Kentuckty Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources webiste.
